A 43-year-old woman died after being run over on an avenue in São Gabriel da Palha, in the northwest of Espírito Santo, in the early hours of Saturday (5). According to witnesses interviewed by the Military Police, the victim, identified as Luciana Coutinho Pereira, was hit by a car after being pushed during an argument in a bar.
The 34-year-old driver involved in the collision said he fled the scene for fear of being lynched. He was interviewed at the Nova Venécia Regional Police Station and released and, according to the Civil Police, the case is investigated by the São Gabriel da Palha Police Station (DP).
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
According to information from the Military Police, the collision occurred on Avenida Bartimeu Gomes de Aguiar, in the Paraíso neighborhood. When the corporation arrived at the scene, Luciana was found lying on the road, without vital signs. The death was confirmed by a team from the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu).
According to witnesses, the driver of the vehicle involved in the collision had left the scene after the accident and was located at a gas station close to the scene of the incident.
Driver said he was unable to avoid the accident
In his report to the military, the driver, whose identity was not disclosed, said he was passing along the avenue when, as he passed in front of a bar, the victim suddenly entered in front of the vehicle. He also said that he was unable to avoid being run over and that, when he got out of the car to help, he was attacked and threatened by members of the public.

When questioned, the man stated that he left the place for fear of being lynched. He refused to take a breathalyzer test and was taken to the 17th Regional Police Station of Nova Venécia.
Woman was allegedly pushed when she was run over
According to the Military Police, witnesses reported that, moments before the collision, the victim had fought with another woman inside the bar.
“According to reports, the argument continued outside, where the victim was pushed towards the road and was subsequently hit by the vehicle,” the corporation explained in a statement.
The victim's body was sent to the Regional Legal Medicine Section (SML), in Colatina, for an autopsy before being released to family members. She was buried this Sunday morning (6) in São Gabriel da Palha.

By note, the Civil Police reported that the driver of the vehicle was interviewed at the police station and then released. "This measure was adopted as there was no evidence of a crime that would justify arrest in the act. The case will continue to be investigated by the São Gabriel da Palha Police Station (DP), highlighted the corporation.
