Capivari River level reaches 2.97 meters and affects 23 families in Capivari

Civil Defense measurements showed that the river level reached 2.97 meters this Sunday (13). In total, 27 people were welcomed into a municipal school.

The level of the Capivari River reached 2.97 meters this Sunday (13) and affected 23 families. The city hall reported that the city recorded 15 points of flooding.

In total, 15 families are homeless in a municipal school. Another 8 families are displaced in family homes.

Civil Defense maintains the municipality in a State of Alert. The agency intensified monitoring of river levels and risk areas.

Last Wednesday (9), Civil Defense requested the company Raízen to fully open the Leopoldina Dam floodgates.

The level of the Capivari River rose again during the morning and reached 2.97 meters this Sunday morning (13). In total, 23 families were affected by the floods.

According to the city hall, of this total, 15 families, totaling 27 homeless people, were welcomed at the Aldo Silveira Municipal School, where they receive assistance from municipal teams.

Another eight families are homeless and are sheltering in family homes.

According to Civil Defense, the river overflows when the level reaches 2.35 meters.

"At this moment, Capivari remains in a State of Alert. The teams have intensified monitoring of the river level and risk areas and continue to be mobilized to adopt the necessary measures", he says in a note.

The new increase in the level of the Capivari River, which was 2.79m on Saturday, also increased the flooding points. Now there are 15. Check out the list:

The authorities' guidance is for drivers and pedestrians to respect closures and signage, use alternative routes and, under no circumstances, attempt to cross flooded areas or currents.

Dam opening

Civil Defense reported that it had requested, last Wednesday (9), the company Raízen to fully open the Leopoldina Dam floodgates.

The preventive measure was taken due to the forecast of heavy rains for the headwaters of the Capivari River, with the aim of facilitating water flow and mitigating impacts on the city.

Civil Defense will continue to issue guidance directly in neighborhoods and through official City Hall channels. The recommendation is that the population, especially residents of risk areas, remain alert to new information.
