New crater opens in São José dos Campos and blocks houses and buildings

The images were obtained by reporter Bruna Capasciutti, from Rede Vanguarda, and were recorded by the security camera of a house close to the crater. The City of São José dos Campos was contacted and we are awaiting a response.

The location is on Rua Felisbina Machado, which was completely closed off. Afterwards, the area that suffered the new subsidence had been covered with stones during containment works carried out by the Administration.

The first crater appeared on January 27, when a truck loaded with approximately 10 tons of concrete blocks was swallowed by the hole. Days later, on February 7, a second erosion opened about 250 meters from the site - the one shown in the video above.

The problem occurs in a section of the street that has faced erosion for around 15 years, but the situation worsened this year.

The second collapse led to the closure of four houses and Residencial Jardins de Sevilha, a building with 34 apartments located next to the erosion. In total, 156 people had to leave the properties.

Since then, the area has remained closed and under monitoring. In April, the City of São José dos Campos signed the work order for the construction of a new rainwater gallery on the site. The work was contracted for R$6.7 million.
