New eviction of migrants on El Trampolín beach in Ceuta

The State Security Forces and Corps were deployed again early this Friday on the El Trampolín beach in Ceuta to evict the more than a thousand migrants who had gathered again in this area, after more than 1,200 people were transferred from this same place on Thursday.

At the moment, the destination of the evicted migrants has not been officially communicated nor whether they will be transferred to one of the two temporary reception resources that began operating this Thursday in Loma Margarita and the Loma Colmenar Embolsamiento.

During the morning, the Autonomous City deployed a cleaning device to recover the sandy area and return it to the conditions prior to the installation of the settlement. However, after the second eviction, hundreds of migrants continue on El Trampolín beach or in its surroundings, as can be seen in the live images broadcast by TVE. Some have returned to set up tents, while others remain seated or wander along the edges of the beach amid rumors that remaining in the area could be a preliminary step to being transferred to one of the reception spaces set up.

Police sources point out that a good part of the people who gathered again this Friday in El Trampolín could come from groups of migrants that were scattered throughout different parts of the city. According to these same sources, some would have interpreted that staying on the beach may constitute a preliminary step to later access some of the temporary reception resources enabled by the administrations.

The situation highlights the difficulties in keeping the settlement vacated. This Thursday, more than 1,200 migrants were transferred from El Trampolín to Loma Margarita and the Embolsamiento of Loma Colmenar, although hours later dozens returned to the beach, apparently to recover their belongings. The presence of these people then forced the cleaning work to be temporarily paralyzed due to the lack of a police device to guarantee the safety of the workers.

Expansion of reception resources

The central government and the Autonomous City of Ceuta continue working on expanding the reception capacity with the preparation and conditioning of three other locations: the Montesa football field number 3, the esplanade of the old guano factory and the Equestrian facilities.

These spaces are part of the device designed to address the situation generated after the massive entry of migrants recorded on July 30 and 31.
