The US persuaded Armenia to a peace agreement with Azerbaijan, promising access to Nvidia chips

The Wall Street Journal, citing sources involved in the negotiations, reported that Washington managed to persuade Yerevan to a preliminary peace agreement with Baku, including through a promise to provide access to advanced Nvidia microchips for projects in the field of artificial intelligence.

According to the publication, one of the key incentives for the Armenian side was the “extended permission to purchase chips” for the Firebird data center located in the city of Hrazdan.

American diplomats assumed that Armenia would be more willing to accept a peaceful settlement if it were offered closer economic ties with the United States. This included issuing permits for the purchase of high-performance Nvidia chips. The developers of the Firebird project, as WSJ notes, expect to install 70 thousand of the latest servers based on the Nvidia Grace Blackwell and Vera Rubin platforms in the data center by the end of 2027.

Former US Ambassador to Armenia Christina Quinn, in a conversation with the publication, emphasized that Nvidia has become “a very important part of this puzzle”, playing a significant role in achieving diplomatic progress.
