Nationwide protest of train drivers: The Trade Union of Railway Drivers announces action

The Trade Union of Railway Drivers in Poland announced a nationwide protest on Friday - train drivers will slow down to 20 km/h at rail and road crossings.

The action is a consequence of the accident at a railway crossing in Sokolniki Suche, which occurred on Wednesday - a collision between a train and a truck, which resulted in the death of one person and seven injuries.

"Constructive" talks with the Minister of Infrastructure. "As a sign of goodwill"

On Thursday, there was a meeting between the Minister of Infrastructure, Dariusz Klimczak, and representatives of the railway drivers' union. The talks - as ZZM president Leszek Miętek said - were "constructive".

I have the minister's declaration that - using his ministerial powers - he will urgently launch teams that will identify and develop methods of neutralizing threats to railway traffic safety - he said during a press briefing after the meeting with the head of the Ministry of Infrastructure.

Initially, the train drivers' protest was supposed to last until midnight, but after talks with Dariusz Klimczak, there was a proposal to shorten this time. As a sign of good will, we will appeal to the National Council to adopt a resolution to end the protest not at midnight, but at 12:00 - so as to give travelers a chance to return home on Friday as scheduled, he said.
