Runaway bus with passengers crashes into car and tree in Ribeirão Preto, SP

The accident happened on Tuesday afternoon (6) on an avenue in the West Zone. Two injured people were taken to health units.

A runaway bus crashed into a car and a tree, this Tuesday (6), leaving three people injured in Ribeirão Preto (SP).

The vehicle was without a driver at the time of the accident. The driver had gotten out to try to solve an electrical problem in the transport.

Security cameras recorded the moment the bus started moving alone. The driver tried to stop the vehicle, but was unable to return.

The Military Police suspect that a breakdown affected the vehicle's brakes. Of the three injured people, two were taken to health units.

RP Mobi reported that the case will be investigated with the PróUrbano consortium. The consortium did not comment until the article was published.

Three people were injured after a public transport bus hit a car and hit a tree in the median of Avenida Otávio Golfeto, in the Jardim Procópio neighborhood, in Ribeirão Preto (SP), on Tuesday afternoon (6).

The vehicle was without a driver (watch the video above). According to information provided by the Military Police, the driver had gotten out to try to solve an electrical problem.

Teams from the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu) were at the scene and took two people to health units.

Camera recorded accident

The accident was recorded by security cameras (watch the video above). In the images, the bus on line 804 - Alexandre Balbo appears stopped next to the passenger terminal. The driver got out and opened an external compartment.

Then, the vehicle began to move on its own, continued along the avenue, hit a car, climbed onto the median and only stopped when it hit a tree.

The driver still tried to follow the movement, but was unable to return to the vehicle.

According to the PM, the initial suspicion is that an electrical fault affected the vehicle's alarm and brake, which stopped working. The driver would have gotten out to check the system, when the vehicle began to descend.

Three people had minor injuries. According to the Municipal Health Department, one of them was taken to the East Emergency Care Unit (UPA) and the other to the Beneficência Portuguesa Hospital. The third refused treatment.

In a note, RP Mobi, the company responsible for traffic in Ribeirão Preto, informed that the case will be investigated with PróUrbano, a consortium operating urban public transport, for the appropriate measures.

PróUrbano regretted the accident and said it would investigate the circumstances.
