Onorato criticizes the electoral law and calls for protests in front of the Senate

At the National Avanti Festival, underway in Campobasso, where all the leaders of the progressive camp met this weekend, he was one of the most anticipated guests, especially after the political controversy that arose over the rules for signatures provided for by the electoral law. Alessandro Onorato, president of Progetto Civico Italia, with the secretaries of Più Europa, Riccardo Magi, and of the PSI, Enzo Maraio, discussed the birth of the so-called 'fourth leg'. Interviewed by ANSA, he focuses on the boundaries of the progressive alliance, on the program, on the primaries and, indeed, on the new electoral law.

"There is a lack of respect for democracy and the Constitution - begins the Roman councilor -. This law is the umpteenth push of a crazy right on a fundamental topic, the rules of the game. Imposing a collection of 370 thousand signatures to be done throughout Italy, 6 thousand in each constituency, means that Meloni says that the Constitution is not respected because there are various sentences of the Constitutional Court which clearly say: the legislator has the possibility of having discretion on how make an electoral law, but cannot artfully establish obstacles such as the signature barrier."

For this reason, Onorato invites you to participate in the protest on Monday afternoon in the square in front of the Senate. "It is not just a battle of Civic Project - he highlights -, but it is a battle to give citizens the opportunity to legitimately choose who to vote for because we are also losing this right and it is not acceptable".

From the electoral law to the boundaries of the centre-left alliance to be built in view of the next elections. "What matters - he replies - is what we want to do for Italy, how we want to guarantee safety for citizens, how to simplify the lives of small and medium-sized entrepreneurs; I'm thinking of the bureaucracy that costs Italian businesses 85 billion euros a year, of how to guarantee a future for every boy or girl, I'm thinking of families because now even those who have a job no longer have a job".

"Faced with an Italy that has these priorities - continues Onorato - we have a package of proposals and we also explain where we get the money and in what time we put it into play. So I believe that the program is the element around which we can unite. At the same time I believe that a breath of novelty and freshness is needed. Progetto Civico Italia represents this: over a thousand administrators who are in the territories, chosen by the citizens and who know how to solve problems and change things".

Finally, a final passage on the primary question of the wide field is inevitable. "There is an electoral law that will force us to choose a leading candidate - he concludes -. This means that the primaries must not be a challenge between the Democratic Party, the 5 Star Movement, Progetto Civico Italia, Avs and the others, to see if one wins over the other. We must understand who the leading candidate is who knows how to unite everyone and has the authority and ability to beat Meloni".
