Police operation in Ceuta dismantles immigrant settlements next to the desalination plant

This Sunday, the National Police carried out an operation in the area where the Ceuta desalination plant meets the stream that limits Benítez beach, with the aim of removing immigrant settlements and guaranteeing security at the facility.

According to police sources, the device, which included the participation of 300 agents from the Police Intervention Unit (UIP) and members of the Aerial Media Unit, focused on the settlements located from the breakwater to the concrete blocks.

The action had a double purpose: to respond to the demand for security in access to the desalination plant and to avoid risks to the physical integrity of the immigrants, who were in danger due to the location between blocks and the breakwater.

The operation is a response to the request issued by the Environment Department of the Autonomous City on September 11, which requested the lifting of the settlements for security reasons.

The affected immigrants were transferred to the Guano area, where they will remain until the housing spaces necessary for their relocation are created, according to local authorities.

During the next few days, the City services will proceed to clean and perimeter fence the area, establishing police surveillance to prevent the settlements from re-establishing themselves.

In addition to the UIP operational groups, the operation had the collaboration of the Higher Headquarters and the Immigration Area of ​​the National Police, reaching a total of 350 officials involved.

Local authorities highlighted the importance of the operation to guarantee the safety of the desalination plant installation and prevent risk situations in adverse weather conditions.

The operation was an example of the coordination between different police units and the local administration to address security and social well-being problems in the region.

The Police stressed that the operation also sought to protect the lives of the immigrants, who were exposed to serious injuries or even life-threatening situations due to their precarious location.
