Bonito and anchovy hunting season has started, prices vary depending on weight

With the start of the hunting season, the abundance of bonito in the sea was reflected on the stalls. While the abundance of bonito coming from the sea adorns the stalls in the first days of the new hunting season, its price varies depending on its weight. This year, in addition to bonito, early anchovies also took their place on the stalls.

Fishermen stated that bonito was abundant this year and that there may be abundance of other fish varieties as well, and the early emergence of anchovy as well as bonito made people happy.

While fishermen predicted that the abundance of bonito would continue, they stated that although other fish varieties such as horse mackerel, sea bream, sea bass and whiting were also available on the stalls, they were not in as high demand as bonito. According to the fishermen, the main reason for this is that bonito is in season and the citizens are now especially focused on bonito.

It was stated that in the first period of the season, acorns weigh approximately 600-700 grams. While it is expected that the fish will continue to grow and fatten, it is noted that prices vary according to length and weight.

Süleyman Çakır, one of the fishermen, stated that they have experienced the most fertile season in recent years and said, "This year we are experiencing one of the most fertile seasons in recent years. There is especially an abundance of bonito. Anchovy is currently coming from the Marmara. Bonito is the native fish of this region. Last year there was no bonito; bonito is a fish that is one year old and not another year. This year, it is quite abundant. Therefore, we think that anchovy may be scarce this year. The price of bonito is 75-100. "It varies between TL and our prices are at a reasonable level. The demand is also quite good, fish is sold. We expect this abundance to continue for about two more months."

Çetin Kavzoğlu, one of the fishermen, stated that fishing started well this season and said, "We think that fishing will be very good this year. Bonito may be abundant one year, but not the next. This year, the situation is not bad at the beginning, the season started well. By the end of next month, it will be clear how the fishing will progress. There is demand for bonito. Prices vary up to 50, 75, 100 and 125 TL depending on quality and weight. Bonitos will be more abundant in the following period. We expect it to grow and weigh more than 1 kilogram. Currently, the weight of the acorns varies between approximately 500 and 700 grams.
