Pezeşkian's Criticism of the USA at the SCO Summit

According to the statement made by the Iranian Presidency, Pezeshkian spoke about the latest developments in the region at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Heads of State Summit held in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan.

Making a statement about the US attacks against his country, Pezeşkiyan described these attacks as an attack against a member of the SCO and an ancient civilization.

Reminding that an agreement known as the "Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding" was reached after nearly 3 months of negotiations under the mediation of Pakistan and Qatar, Pezeshkian complained about the Washington administration's violation of its commitments.

Stating that the USA's commitment to this document, signed by its own president, lasted less than 2 weeks, and then this country started to make excessive demands, the Iranian President stated that Iran gave a "proportionate response" when the USA violated its commitments.

Pezeshkian said, "If the USA returns to its commitments, the Islamic Republic of Iran will also take immediate steps." he said.

"Developments threaten the entire region"

Iranian President Pezeshkian noted that the recent developments in Iran, Lebanon, Gaza and the West Bank, ignoring the rules of international law and continuing approaches based on force and pressure threaten not only the security of the mentioned regions, but also the stability of the entire region and the world.

Making evaluations about the SCO's work on "maintaining dialogue and creating effective cooperation mechanisms", Pezeşkiyan continued as follows:

"The fight against terrorism, extremism and emerging security threats requires strengthening the institutional and expert capacity of the organization. In this regard, Iran has proposed the establishment of the SCO Center for Strategic Security Research. This center will benefit from the scientific and expert capacity of member countries and contribute to the identification of emerging threats, evaluation of developments in the field of security and provision of expert recommendations to strengthen regional security and stability."

Massoud Pezeshkiyan also noted that Iran has also presented the initiative to establish the parliamentary assembly of the SCO member countries in order to strengthen inter-parliamentary dialogue, share experiences in the field of legislation and support cooperation between member countries.
