More than 700 humanitarian aid trucks arrive in Afghanistan via Pakistan

More than 700 trucks loaded with international humanitarian aid have arrived in Afghanistan via Pakistan despite the almost total closure of the land border between the two countries in conflict, we learned from the UN on Sunday. This convoy was transporting “food and essential humanitarian equipment”, Olga Cherevko, spokesperson for the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (Ocha) in Afghanistan, told AFP. “724 trucks of humanitarian cargo passed through Afghanistan, reaching the families most in need,” the United Nations resident coordinator in Pakistan, Mohamed Yahya, said on X, thanking Islamabad and “all those who helped keep the humanitarian lifeline open.”

The conflict with Pakistan, which resulted in the almost total closure of the land border between the two countries since October 2025, has significantly disrupted logistical routes for delivering humanitarian aid, WFP deputy executive director Carl Skau explained to AFP in May. At the beginning of this year, fortified biscuits intended for Afghan schoolchildren which were to arrive from Pakistan, for example, had to be diverted to pass via Iran before the war in that country also disrupted this route. They were finally able to arrive in Afghanistan months later after a land and sea journey passing, among other places, Jordan, Turkey and Azerbaijan.
