Federal Police investigate illegal sale of 17th century Peruvian artwork in Rio de Janeiro

The investigation began after the Peruvian National Police informed the PF that the work “Magnificent Señor de los Temblores – Escuela Cusqueña, Siglo 17” was being offered on an international platform for trading works of art.

During the investigations, the PF identified elements that link the painting advertised abroad to a company based in Rio de Janeiro and specialized in the trade of works of art and antiques.

According to a technical analysis by the Peruvian Ministry of Culture, the painting is a 17th century Peruvian viceregal work, with relevant historical and artistic value. It is recognized as part of the Cultural Heritage of the Peruvian Nation and, therefore, could not have left the country without specific authorization from the Peruvian government.
