Police officer is suspected of shooting dead friend at holiday home in Arraial d'Ajuda; victim allegedly attacked his wife

A civil police officer from the state of São Paulo is suspected of shooting his friend to death in Arraial d'Ajuda, Porto Seguro district, in the extreme south of Bahia. The crime took place inside a holiday home, on Thursday (29), after disagreements and attacks. No one was arrested.

The victim was identified as Jefferson D'Avila Conceição, 33 years old. In testimony, the suspected police officer said that he, his wife and his friend had been staying at the property since Sunday (25). On Thursday, he and Jefferson drank on the beach and argued on the way home.

Upon arriving at the property, Jefferson aggressively demanded that his friend's wife hand over her cell phone. When she refused, he allegedly hit her with a kick and a slap.

According to the suspect, after attacking the woman, Jefferson reached for a knife. The police officer said he shot his friend after these attacks, to protect his wife.

According to the police, the officer handed over the weapon used in the crime to the forensic examiner spontaneously. The suspect's wife also gave a statement and told a version similar to her husband's.

The condominium manager also gave a statement to the police. He said he heard shots and a woman's screams, as well as seeing the police officer leave towards the beach and return to the house. He also said he saw the victim leave the residence bleeding and asking for help.

The images from the condominium's camera system will be checked and the location has been subjected to forensic examination. The case is being investigated.
