Poland wants to use the situation in Ceuta to change the EU's asylum policy

It is primarily about how the EU should be prepared for situations of mass, illegal crossing of the external border. It's about broader implications or lessons that the EU can draw from this situation, an EU diplomat told an RMF FM journalist.

Poland declares full solidarity with Spain and readiness to help, but also wants to use the discussion about Ceuta to push its approach to asylum.

Warsaw demands that the entire EU adopt the Polish interpretation of the provisions of the Geneva Convention regarding asylum, so that the right to asylum can be limited when migrants forcefully and en masse cross the border.

The deputy head of the Ministry of Interior and Administration recently said in an interview with an RMF FM journalist that "the idea is to deprive people who illegally cross the border in organized groups, using violence or destroying border security, of the right to international protection."

At the same time, Poland wants more reliable information from Spain about what exactly happened in Ceuta - including the role of Morocco. The Ceuta authorities say that Rabat is responsible, while Madrid does not decide on this issue.
