MOSCOW, September 3 - RIA Novosti. Fraudsters at the airport can use fake QR codes to redirect passengers to fake airline websites in order to steal passport data, warned Sergei Tunchik, head of the Information Security sector of the League of Digital Economy.
“One of the most common schemes this year is QR phishing... This habit is used by scammers: a request to scan a code to “confirm your boarding pass” does not arouse suspicion. Often it leads to a clone of the airline’s website with a form for re-entering passport and payment data or a page for “payment” for additional services,” Tunchik told Gazeta.Ru.
According to the expert, scammers can use schemes to provide compensation for flight delays and cancellations: a fake bot that imitates support, sends a link to submit compensation or requests bank details for a refund.
Tunchik also spoke about possible attacks through public USB charging ports: when connected to them, malware can be installed on the device, giving scammers access to data.
