Rock in Rio prepares for cold front, drop in temperature and rain forecast over the weekend

Anyone going to Rock in Rio this Saturday (5) and Sunday (6) should prepare not only their look for the festival, but also a strategy to face the rain. After a hot Friday, the arrival of a cold front is expected to change the weather over the weekend, with a drop in temperatures, strong winds and rain forecast in the City of Rock.

The forecast indicates a maximum of 26°C on Saturday and Sunday, with the possibility of light to moderate rain. According to Alerta Rio, areas of instability together with the movement of a cold front will influence the weather in the capital of Rio de Janeiro this Saturday. The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) also issued a warning for storms. Instability is expected to continue until Monday's holiday (7).

But this does not necessarily mean that the public needs to abandon the program at the first sign of rain. Although most of the 385,000 m² of Cidade do Rock is uncovered, there are covered or partially protected points spread throughout the festival that can serve as a refuge during precipitation.

g1 toured the space and identified some places that can help anyone who wants to escape the rain without having to leave the show area.

Important: spaces have different access rules. Some are released to the entire public, while others depend on participation in activations, availability or are intended for guests.

Covered area between the Mundo and Supernova stages

One of the options for those traveling around the Mundo and Supernova stages are the covered structures installed on the path between the two spaces.

There is a gazebo-shaped area, which can act as a shelter for those who need to wait out a rain shower.

The space, however, should not accommodate the entire public in the event of more intense rain. The tip is to arrive early and pay attention to crowds.

Stands and brand activations

Other alternatives are the various stands and brand activation spaces spread across Cidade do Rock.

Some of them have covered structures and, in certain cases, offer a privileged view of the stages. It is possible, for example, to find places where the public can participate in an activity, get to know the brand and, at the same time, wait for the rain to pass.

But you need to be careful: not all spaces are freely accessible. Some areas are exclusive to guests, while others can be accessed by the public who participate in the games or comply with the rules of each activation.

Among the brands that have structures that can help in case of rain are Superbet, Itaú and TIM, among others.

Stores and closed spaces

The shops and other establishments located within Cidade do Rock can also be an alternative for a quick break during the rain.

In addition to partially protecting the public, some of these points are located in strategic areas and can allow visitors to continue following the festival's activities.

The strategy, in this case, is to look for establishments that have indoor areas or marquees and avoid standing in places with narrow circulation.

VIP area also has uncovered spaces

Anyone in the VIP area will not necessarily be protected from the rain. Despite being a huge structure and having indoor and covered areas, an important part of the space is open.

The balcony, for example, offers a privileged view of the World Stage, but leaves the public exposed in case of rain. In other words: having access to the VIP area does not automatically mean being protected from water.

For anyone there, the tip is to look for indoor areas before the rain starts — especially if the intention is to stay dry during the shows.

And the best place to watch the shows? The answer depends on what the public considers a priority.

Anyone who wants to stay close to the stage will have few alternatives: the most contested areas in front of Mundo and Sunset are open and, in case of rain, there is no way to guarantee protection.

Those who agree to watch the shows a little further away may have more options to look for a covered or partially protected structure.

One strategy could be to monitor movement on the big screens and take advantage of covered spaces during the strongest showers, returning to open areas when the rain subsides.

Saturday has Avenged Sevenfold; Sunday will have Calvin Harris

The rain forecast hits exactly two of the most anticipated days of the first weekend. On Saturday, Palco Mundo hosts Sepultura, MGK, Bring Me The Horizon and Avenged Sevenfold, which closes the stage's program at 0:05.

On Sunday, it's the turn of Barão Vermelho Encontro Original Formation, Nelly, Black Eyed Peas and Calvin Harris. The DJ ends the night at Mundo, also at 0:05.

In addition to the main stage, Cidade do Rock will have programming in the Sunset, New Dance Order, Espaço Favela, Supernova and Global Village spaces.

Tips for facing the rain

Bring a raincoat, preferably compact and easy to store;

Wear comfortable shoes that can get wet;

Identify the points covered as soon as you arrive;

Don't wait for the rain to start to look for shelter: protected spaces can fill up quickly;

In case of strong winds or storms, follow the guidelines of the organization and safety teams;

Remember that not all covered space is freely accessible. The weather forecast may change between now and the festival.

Looks in case of rain

With rain forecast for the weekend, the ideal is to leave home prepared to enjoy the Rock in Rio shows in the most comfortable way possible. g1 spoke with stylist Carolina Franco, who gave tips on appropriate looks for rainy days.

"A waterproof nylon look and high boots work very well for these days with lower temperatures and rain forecast. Another option is a printed t-shirt, short skirt, PU jacket and a high fashionista galoshe", said Carolina.

Another choice from the designer is the cap to wear under the hood.

"I would definitely take a cap to wear under my hood. With satin shorts, a nylon coat with a hood, tights and combat boots," he added.

And for those who want a lighter style, the designer's proposal is a waterproof windbreaker jacket, leggings and a top.

"This look is very cool. Nylon coats are very popular, everyone is wearing them to go out to events. Big brands have invested in this proposal", revealed Carolina.

For men, the options are sports nylon jackets, shorts and cool sneakers.
