Roman Ż. arrested in the investigation regarding Zondacrypto - the attorney explains the circumstances

Roman Ż. is a former partner of Sylwester Suszek, the missing founder of the BitBay cryptocurrency exchange, the predecessor of Zondacrypto.

Mec. Gazda announced that his client had been charged with two charges - one of fraud. As far as I know, there will be a request for arrest. My client pleaded not guilty and provided extensive explanations. His knowledge is limited only to the management of the BitBay company - until this name was in circulation - he added.

A ticket to China and back?

He also referred to the words of the Minister of Justice, Waldemar Żurek, who spoke about the risk of Ż escape. to China. Attorney Gazda denied it and explained that Ż. he had purchased tickets to China for Sunday, but also a return ticket for September 13.

It was a purely business trip. Especially since my client was also in China in June and came back, he emphasized.

He noted that this was a coincidence that led to his client's quicker arrest.

Detention of Roman Ż.

Roman Ż. was arrested by police on Saturday afternoon in connection with an investigation into Zondacrypto. The services secured, among others, documentation related to the stock exchange.

The press secretary of the Prosecutor General, Prosecutor Anna Adamiak, said that until the arrest of Roman Ż. occurred due to a well-founded fear of escape. The Minister of Justice announced on Sunday that - according to the services' knowledge - the detainee wanted to go to China.

Zondacrypto scandal

An investigation into the Zondacrypto case was initiated by the Regional Prosecutor's Office in Katowice in April for fraud of significant value and money laundering. So far, several thousand crime reports have been received.

In August, the investigation into the Zondacrypto case was combined with the investigation into the disappearance of Sylwester Suszek, which is being conducted by the branch of the National Prosecutor's Office in Katowice.
