Rosa Icela Rodríguez asks the INE and the Judiciary for caution in the face of budget requests

The Secretary of the Interior, Rosa Icela Rodríguez, yesterday asked the National Electoral Institute (INE) and the Judiciary to act with “prudence” in the face of what she described as “excessive requests” for the budget for 2027. When leading the morning conference at the National Palace, she stated that austerity applies not only to the Executive, but also to the Legislative, the Judiciary and the autonomous organizations.

The official was questioned about the requests from the INE, which amount to more than 40 billion pesos – 10 billion of them for political parties – and about the request from the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) to allocate resources that would reactivate insurance for major medical expenses of commanders of the Judiciary.

Rodríguez said that the issue has been discussed with President Claudia Sheinbaum and with members of the General Council of the INE. “We know about autonomy, but also about the government's priorities,” he said, adding that he trusts that the Judiciary and the INE will reach agreements on austerity.

He recalled that senior federal government officials have not received salary increases due to austerity, and said that the same is expected from other instances.

Rodríguez confirmed the dates of the plenary meetings with the parliamentary groups of Morena and its allies, prior to the ordinary period of sessions: with the Senate, it will be on August 30 at 9:00 a.m. and with the bench in the Chamber of Deputies at 12:00 p.m. that same day, while with the Labor Party it will be held the following day. In these meetings, information is provided on the government's agenda and “interests” in public policy, and questions from parliamentary groups are answered, he said.

After the plenary sessions, the government will also attend the gloss of the Report before committees of both Chambers, for which the formats of the interventions are still defined.

Rodríguez also pointed out that there is still "a pending agenda" of initiatives to be presented to Congress, beyond the General Law on Femicide already submitted, and announced that the rest of the agenda will be announced "shortly", as it is still being reviewed with President Sheinbaum. He estimated that the presentation will occur “in this month” of August.
