Sarah Knafo evokes a possible alliance between the RN and Reconquest for a Le Pen government

Water has, it seems, flowed under the bridges since the last presidential election. Four years after the brutal clash between Marine Le Pen and Éric Zemmour, which had exacerbated the divisions in the nationalist camp during the campaign before turning to the advantage of the former, could their two parties - the RN and Reconquête - find common ground with a view to a government agreement? Nothing can be excluded. If the “wild primary” of 2022 left traces between the two leaders, the hypothesis is now in the air: Sarah Knafo, for the first time this Thursday, hinted at the possibility of joining a Bardella government, under a Le Pen presidency.

Invited on LCI on the occasion of the promotion of her book Le Casse du siècle (Fayard), the Reconquête MEP called on all parties of the same sensitivity to “get along” to win, while the leader of the RN deputies is given the winner in all the scenarios tested by the pollsters. Favorable to the “union of the rights” dear to Éric Zemmour, she assures that she can, if necessary, work with the flame party in the name of the general interest. “Why not”, she blurted, provided however that this government carries a program with which its “convictions would be aligned”.

A sort of “patriotic” coalition, like the one formed around Giorgia Meloni in Italy, where Fratelli d’Italia, the Lega and Forza Italia govern together despite their differences. Sarah Knafo's ambition: to transpose the success of the transalpine model into national policy. Holding an “identity” and “very firm on the sovereign” line, the European elected official nonetheless demands an economic approach “much more credible, much more innovative and much more revolutionary than what the others are proposing”. Namely the RN, whose orientation, with Marine Le Pen, is clearly more social and statist than that of Reconquête, of liberal sensibility.

Closed wounds?

The wounds of 2022 still need to be healed. Because behind Sarah Knafo's openness a major question arises: what will be the position of Marine Le Pen, who has never really spoken with Éric Zemmour since their duel? Not even during the post-dissolution legislative elections of 2024, when the Zemmourists had reached out in vain to the RN and LR, Jordan Bardella having then invoked a lack of “confidence” in the ex-editorialist. The confrontation between the two nationalist candidates may have been violent, but Sarah Knafo assures that she “does not hate anyone”. It is therefore better, in his eyes, to deal with the competing but compatible camp than to remain idly, at the risk of seeing the “problems of the French” worsen, including “debt, mismanagement, insecurity, the Islamization of the country”.
