Clashes on the border between the Venezuelan army and Colombian guerrillas, eight dead

The Venezuelan NGO Fundaredes reported eight corpses brought in the last few hours to the morgue of the municipal cemetery of San Fernando, in the province of Apure, after the bombing of an alleged Colombian guerrilla camp by the Venezuelan armed forces (Fanb).

According to the testimonies collected on site by the NGO, it was a cell of the National Liberation Army (ELN) fleeing from operations conducted by the Colombian army on the other side of the border. Among the deceased, it is reported, there are two Venezuelans, two Colombians and four Mexicans.

The information regarding a Fanb operation on the border with Colombia coincides with what was recently announced by the Minister of the Interior of Venezuela, Diosdado Cabello, on the deployment of units of the armed forces and police in the province of Apure for preventive purposes.

Cabello declared that the Venezuelan state is required "to take precautionary measures" to "prevent the people who live in Venezuela from being involved in a conflict that is not ours, and that certainly did not start yesterday." "The president was very clear: We do not want internal conflicts in Venezuela, much less conflicts that do not belong to us."
