SE Dons goalkeeper George Desmond Kamurasi denies Tooro Kingdom throne in Uganda

SE Dons captain George Desmond Kamurasi, who continues his football career in England's lower leagues, turned down the offer to ascend to the throne of the traditional Tooro Kingdom in Uganda.

HE WAS FIRST IN LINE FOR THE THRONE

Kamurasi, 36, has been nominated to become the new ruler of the kingdom, following the death of Tooro King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, who died last month.

According to ESPN, 15 members of the 18-person Royal Succession Committee of Tooro Kingdom voted in favor of Kamurasi. Thus, the goalkeeper playing football in England became the first in line for the throne.

However, Kamurasi did not accept the kingship offer made to him.

"I HAVE OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES"

Committee member Fr. Dr. Charles Oyo announced that Kamurasi had declared that he could not assume the duties of king.

Oyo stated that the candidates were ranked after being evaluated and said, "The first candidate said, 'No, I have responsibilities and I cannot be king.' The next candidate accepted the position."

NEW KING HAS BEEN ELECTED

After Kamurasi turned down the offer, Prince Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma, a television presenter and editor at the Uganda Broadcasting Corporation, was elected as the new king.

However, Kijanangoma's choice was met with objection by the mother and sister of the deceased King Oyo.

The family argues that in the will prepared in 2022, King Oyo's biological son was shown as the heir to the throne.

WILL CONTINUE PLAYING FOOTBALL

Kamurasi, nicknamed "Big G", decided to continue his football career in England.

The 1.98 meter tall goalkeeper is also known for the enthusiastic speeches he makes in SE Dons' social media content and before the matches.
