WASHINGTON, September 11 – RIA Novosti. The extremists who carried out the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 in the United States, prepared for them for two years, according to CIA documents declassified on Friday, which RIA Novosti reviewed.

"An Arab from Kandahar said yesterday that the attacks were the result of two years of planning and were the 'beginning of anger,'" according to a September 12, 2001, intelligence briefing.

Its authors noted that, according to accumulating evidence, Sunni extremists in Afghanistan and the Persian Gulf region knew about the impending attack.

“On Sunday (September 9, 2001 – ed.), one of the Mujahideen coordinators in Afghanistan reported that (Osama – ed.) bin Laden left Kandahar and headed to Kabul in anticipation of a possible operation,” the document stated.
