Six people remain hospitalized after serious accident on BR-230, in PB

Six people remain hospitalized this Wednesday (28) after an accident that killed 6 on BR-230. 3 injured people are in serious condition and 3 remain stable.

Among the dead, 2 victims were a couple in the truck. The other 4 were in a van transporting cancer patients from Itaporanga.

The accident occurred at km 227, between Juazeirinho and Soledade. The Federal Highway Police is investigating whether the van entered the oncoming lane.

Six of the 15 people who were taken to the Campina Grande Emergency and Trauma Hospital after the accident between a van and a pickup truck on BR-230, in Paraíba, remain hospitalized this Wednesday (28). Three patients are in serious condition and three others are in stable clinical condition. Nine people were medically discharged.

Among the patients in serious condition are two children, aged 2 and 4, and a 30-year-old woman. The 2-year-old is intubated and receiving intensive care. The other child is also hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Of the patients in stable condition, a 25-year-old man is admitted to neurosurgery. Two other patients, aged 31 and 56, remain under observation in the hospital's Green Room.

Ana Vitória da Silva, 19 years old: occupant of the truck;

Doracy Moreira, age not disclosed: passenger in the van;

João dos Santos Silva, age not disclosed: van driver;

Ana Cristina Felix Holanda, age not disclosed: passenger in the van;

João Paulo Rodrigues Pereira, 14 years old: teenager who was in the van.

Of the six people who died in the accident, only two were related to each other. According to the Civil Police, the victims were in the truck and were a couple in a stable relationship. The other four dead had no family ties.

The couple was in a pickup truck, which was heading from Alagoa Nova, in the state's Brejo, to the Juazeirinho fair, transporting goods.

The collision happened at km 227 of BR-230, between Juazeirinho and Soledade. According to the Civil Police, the van was carrying at least 18 people. Four occupants of the vehicle died, as did the two occupants of the truck.

According to an investigation by TV Paraíba, the van had left Itaporanga, in the Sertão of the state, during the early hours of the morning to take cancer patients to hospitals in Campina Grande and João Pessoa.

The truck had left Alagoa Nova and was heading to the Juazeirinho fair, transporting goods.

The main hypothesis investigated by the Federal Highway Police (PRF) is that the driver of the van entered the oncoming lane and collided head-on with the truck. The causes of the accident are still investigated.

The Municipality of Itaporanga, where the van involved in the accident left, released a note of condolence lamenting the deaths of patients undergoing cancer treatment. The municipal management reported that it is monitoring the investigation of the case.

The injured were taken to the Campina Grande Emergency and Trauma Hospital.
