São João de Meriti City Hall employee is shot dead in Vilar dos Teles

Server Márcio Barros Freitas was shot dead this Wednesday (30) in Vilar dos Teles, São João de Meriti. He was inside his car.

A second person, Gilson Tranquilino da Costa, 35, was also shot at the scene. He was rescued and taken to the municipal hospital.

The Homicide Department investigates the crime with a focus on the possibility of execution. The city hall confirmed that Márcio worked at the Health Department.

An employee of São João de Meriti City Hall was shot dead late this Wednesday afternoon (30) in Vilar dos Teles, in São João de Meriti, Baixada Fluminense.

The victim was identified as Márcio Barros Freitas, who worked at the city's Municipal Health Department.

According to the Military Police, agents from the 21st BPM (São João de Meriti) were called to verify an occurrence of firearms being fired in the region. At the scene, the police found Márcio already lifeless inside the car he was driving.

During the attack, a second person was also hit by gunfire. According to information from city hall, he is Gilson Tranquilino da Costa, 35 years old.

According to witnesses, he lives on the streets and was shot while passing by at the time of the shooting.

Gilson was rescued and taken to the Municipal Hospital of São João de Meriti, where he was admitted at around 5pm.

The Municipal Health Department reported that he is still being monitored by the medical team. His health status was not disclosed.

The main line of investigation by the Baixada Fluminense Homicide Police Station (DHBF) is that Márcio Barros was the victim of an execution. The circumstances of the crime and motivation are still being investigated.

In a statement, the City of São João de Meriti confirmed that Márcio was part of the staff of the Municipal Health Department and lamented the employee's death.
