Seven bodies recovered from Gandak river in Uttar Pradesh following Nepal floods

At least seven unidentified bodies have recovered from Gandak (Narayani) river in Maharajganj and Kushinagar districts of Uttar Pradesh till Friday morning, after devastating floods in Nepal triggered a sharp rise in the river’s water flow. Officials said efforts were on to identify the deceased.

Bodies of three women and a man were found in Telphal area of Maharajganj district. Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) personnel, who were conducting surveillance and rescue operations along the river, reached the spot in a motorboat and retrieved the bodies.

Meanwhile, three bodies were found near Siswagopal village near Chhitauni embankment of Gandak river in Kushinagar. Villagers spotted the bodies of two women and a man in the river on Thursday night and informed the police. Sub-divisional magistrate Sarvesh Kumar Gaur, Khadda circle officer, the station house officer of the area and SDRF personnel retrieved the bodies and shifted them to the mortuary.
