Sofia Goggia returns to Italy due to illness during the training camp in Argentina

Sofia Goggia's trip to Argentina to prepare for the next winter season ends earlier than expected. The Italian alpine skiing champion was forced to return to Italy due to some illnesses suffered during the usual pre-season retreat in the Ushuaia ski area. The Italian had been training with the Italian national ski team since 23 August and was supposed to remain in the Argentine ski resort training until Friday 18 September, and then move to Chile until the first days of October.

In the next few days the 33-year-old champion from Bergamo will carry out the necessary investigations, as explained in the press release from the Italian federation (Fisi). "Argentinian trip concluded early by Sofia Goggia. The champion from Bergamo, winner of the bronze medal in the Olympic downhill in Milan Cortina 2026 and of the super-giant world cup last season, suffered from illness during her stay in Ushuaia which lasted from August 23rd, and in agreement with the Fisi Medical Commission chaired by Dr. Andrea Panzeri, she decided to return to Italy to undergo tests in the next few days case".

The Alpine Skiing World Cup will restart at the end of October with the giant slalom on October 24, 2026 in Sölden, Austria, and will end on March 25, 2027 in Sun Valley, United States. In the women's field, 40 races are scheduled (9 downhill, 9 super-giant, 12 giant slalom, 10 special slalom), in 20 stages.

The 2027 Alpine Skiing World Championships will be held in Crans-Montana during the season. American Mikaela Shiffrin is the outgoing overall Cup holder.
