South Korea and Japan Hold Vice Finance Ministerial Meeting in Tokyo

SEOUL, Aug. 21 (Yonhap) -- South Korea and Japan held a vice finance ministerial-level meeting in Japan on Friday to discuss bilateral exchanges and the latest trends in global financial markets, the finance ministry said.

Moon Ji-sung, deputy minister for international affairs at the Ministry of Finance and Economy, met with Atsushi Mimura, Japan's vice minister of finance, in Tokyo.

During the meeting, the two countries exchanged views on recent developments in the global economy and financial markets, while sharing their respective governments' efforts to address related challenges.

They also discussed ways to promote bilateral exchanges as well as pending issues on multilateral platforms, such as ASEAN+3 and the Group of 20 (G20).

The two countries' finance authorities vowed to continue close coordination at both the senior and working levels, the finance ministry added.

Late last month, Moon noted that South Korea was maintaining close coordination with Japan amid market speculation that Seoul and Tokyo's financial authorities had intervened in the foreign exchange market.
