The public prosecutor's office is investigating the carer after a nine-year-old drowned in Lake Twiste

After a nine-year-old boy drowned in Twistesee in Bad Arolsen, the public prosecutor's office is investigating a carer. The prosecution in Kassel said there was an initial suspicion of negligent homicide. “Whether the accused man will ultimately face criminal charges can only be determined once the investigation has been completed,” it continued. Possible witnesses still need to be heard.

The man had looked after children from a holiday leisure group from North Rhine-Westphalia, including the deceased boy who came from Wuppertal. According to previous investigations, he and two other children aged eight and eleven fell into the water on August 12th near the lido on the lake in the Waldeck-Frankenberg district after their inflatable boat lost stability for reasons unknown. The carer reacted immediately and was able to save two children, but the nine-year-old initially remained missing. He was found during the search that was immediately initiated. The autopsy revealed that he had drowned.

No life jacket

The investigating authorities assume that he was not wearing a life jacket. According to the report, he took swimming lessons at school. How well he could swim is unclear.
