The Foreign Ministry accused the West of using Starlink systems to coordinate protests

Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Alexander Alimov said that Western satellite Internet systems are used to interfere in the internal affairs of countries.

User terminals from these systems are smuggled into developing countries and used to coordinate illegal protests.

MOSCOW, October 12 - RIA Novosti. Western satellite Internet systems like Starlink are used to interfere in the internal affairs of countries and coordinate illegal protests there, Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Alexander Alimov said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

“Western low-orbit satellite Internet communication systems are widely used to interfere in the internal affairs of states. Subscriber terminals are illegally imported into developing countries and are used to coordinate illegal protests,” he told the agency following the results of the II Global Digital Forum, answering a question about satellite Internet technologies such as Starlink.

The diplomat emphasized that Iran directly reports this problem to the Russian side, since it regularly faces such cases since 2022.

“In order to attract the closest attention to the problem, at the end of last year we held a meeting of the UN Security Council on the “Arria formula” (informal meetings of Security Council members on the initiative of one of them - ed.). We also touched on this topic at the Global Digital Forum,” the diplomat concluded.
