The Fiom of Turin reports the nineteenth consecutive year of recourse to social safety nets

The Mirafiori plant uses redundancy payments for the nineteenth consecutive year. Production is currently limited to just one vehicle model.
The decision was made by Stellantis after an internal meeting, called to evaluate the production problems of the plant. "We are facing a complex situation despite the investments and the doubling of production compared to last year," explained a company spokesperson.
The Fiom of Turin has expressed concern about the return of the redundancy fund. "Only eight months have passed since the redundancy fund ceased at the body shop in Mirafiori. Eight months, however, interspersed with weekly production stops that began in the month of June and also with the holiday period which was extended. The fact remains that after this short period of work the request for the redundancy fund arrived with a complete production stop which risks being the first of a long series, also putting at risk the confirmation of the 400 temporary workers who work in the body shop", commented the general secretary of the Fiom of Turin Edi Lazzi and the head of Fiom di Mirafiori Gianni Mannori.
"We would like to point out the fact that, with this stop, we are in the nineteenth consecutive year in which workers have been placed on redundancy pay. We are thus, for the umpteenth time in the tunnel of the pay fund which, as always, the workers of Stellantis, but also those of its related industries, will pay firsthand. We were easy prophets, indicating as a concrete risk the return of the social safety nets which were requested by the company, certainly not due to the lack of components, as Stellantis tried to make people believe, but due to the poor sales of the only model produced, as supported by Fiom of Turin. For this reason we continue to argue that a single model is not enough. Now there is an urgent need for a meeting between the union, the company and institutions at all levels to find solutions as soon as possible for Mirafiori and Turin in general, aimed at counteracting the decline that our territory has been experiencing for too long", added Lazzi and Mannori.

Professional freedom is not measured by the kilometers travelled, but by the possibility of choosing where to work.
