The junior partner of the coalition government, Sumar, has clearly distanced itself from the socialist wing and has directly accused Morocco, with the collaboration of the United States and Israel, of causing a mass crossing of the Ceuta border to bring down the Government and has demanded the transfer to the Peninsula of the thousands of people and particularly minors who are still in the autonomous city.
Sumar spokesman Enrique Santiago, of Izquierda Unida, has described what happened at the end of July as an “operation” by Morocco “in coordination with Israel and the United States” with “political and geostrategic implications.”
For her part, Aina Vidal, from Comuns, has spoken of "powers with different interests", in reference to Morocco, the United States and Israel, whose "common interest is to destroy this Government and overthrow democracy. "And what are they not going to do when elections are called in this country?" she asked.
Vidal has warned Sánchez that the “appeasement policy” with Morocco “has failed.” “We warned you when you abandoned the Sahrawi people,” he questioned the President of the Government, recalling the shift of the Executive that went in March 2022 from supporting the self-determination of Western Sahara to supporting the Moroccan autonomy plan for the former Spanish colony.
Vidal has proposed recovering international law and has asked for “explanations” from Rabat, following the police report that shows the passivity or active guidance of the Moroccan agents, and “a reflection” from Europe, which, in his opinion, “pays” third countries that “don't even believe that Ceuta and Melilla are Spanish” to monitor their borders. “What a surprise when they don't respect them afterwards!” he blurted out,
Regarding the situation in Ceuta, both Santiago and Vidal have asked to abandon “impossible solutions” in reference to the return to Morocco of migrants who are still in the autonomous city, especially minors, who for the IU spokesperson only serve to support the PP and Vox strategy of “prolonging the crisis.” Both have advocated for their transfer to the Peninsula. In this sense, the spokesperson for the Comuns has called on Alberto Núñez Feijóo to call the regional presidents of the PP to take in the minors, something they refuse to do. “You have a very powerful key,” he told him and then reproached the PP that “they cannot govern because they are a bunch of racist arsonists and hatemongers.”
Both Santiago and Vidal have accused PP and Vox of not helping in the Ceuta crisis and of fueling hatred of the migrant and both have had strong words against the ultra deputy José María Figaredo, who during the height of the crisis called for the migrant to be hunted down. “You have to be miserable,” Vidal told him, assuming that the expression could be removed from the session diary. “How far do your honors want to go? For its part, the Esquerra Republicana parliamentary group, through its spokesperson, Gabriel Rufián, has distributed blame and responsibilities between Morocco, the Government and the opposition. Rufián has accused Morocco "of sending 80,000 people as cannon fodder to destroy the Government with the collaboration of Washington and Tel Aviv, and yes, the Spanish right-wing, judicial and police forces." At the same time, he has called the central Executive “pusillanimous” for continuing to defend that Morocco has no responsibility in the migratory avalanche on Ceuta. The Republican leader has also branded PP and Vox as “traitors” because “if the police and judges, your police and your judges, so did you,” he noted in reference to the alleged police warnings about the massive entry of migrants.
According to Rufián, “the US and Israel cheered what happened in Ceuta,” and “Morocco is proposing a war that Spain cannot win.” After describing the Moroccan king as a "murderer", the Republican has warned Sánchez that "governments lose themselves above all by lying", recalling the electoral turnaround that occurred in Spain after 11-M 2004, and has prescribed "order, inclusion, integration, rights and obligations" in the face of the immigration challenge. “Recover legal means of entry” and that “those who entered are treated with dignity and returned quickly,” he noted.
From Junts, spokesperson Míriam Nogueras has once again called on Sánchez to “step aside” so that another socialist leader takes charge of the Government until the next general elections. It is, in his opinion, the only way to prevent the extreme right from reaching the Government. But before issuing this conclusion, the parliamentarian has justified the demand in the Ceuta crisis: "Either he knew the warnings and lies to protect Morocco, or he did not know them and lies to the people when he says that he has control of national security. Both options are serious and disqualify him from continuing to govern," she warned.
Nogueras has attacked the “Management inability that crosses all lines” of the current Executive, which he has compared with that of the Government of Salvador Illa, and has used the process of regularization of immigrants carried out “without criteria, without control, while the rest of the European countries apply more restrictive measures and more controls”, to justify what happened and demand that Catalonia obtain all powers in immigration matters, “We want all the powers, immigration, economic, to do "The same as the rest of the countries, controlling who enters, guaranteeing integration and, when necessary, quickly executing the expulsion orders. The spokesperson for EH Bildu, Mertxe Aizpurua, has also agreed with other left-wing parties that Morocco, the US and other countries have promoted the entry of migrants into Ceuta to destabilize the Spanish Government and has regretted that the European Union (EU) has “left it alone”.
Likewise, he has reproached Pedro Sánchez's Executive for not being up to par or providing the necessary resources on time, while questioning whether information had been hidden from the Government or whether his ministers had lied about the situation.
Likewise, he has accused the right and in particular the PP of instrumentalizing and militarizing a humanitarian crisis to sow hatred, refusing to welcome migrants in their autonomous communities with the aim of sinking the legislature.
Along the same lines, the spokesperson for the Basque group, Maribel Vaquero, has reproached the president for his “complacency”: “They have arrived late, there has been abandonment and the Spanish Government has not been up to the task.”
After recalling the “stormy” historical relationship of the Spanish State with Morocco and the poor “reliability” of the neighboring country, Vaquero has demanded a “managed migration”, approached from “responsibility” in the face of “constant improvisation and populism”, and has claimed powers in matters of migration for the Basque Government because it must be “an active part in something that has direct consequences on Euskadi”.
