Syria Condemns Air Strike on Air Base in Idlib

The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs made a statement regarding the air strikes on Abu Zuhur Air Base in Idlib tonight. The statement stated that the attack was carried out by Israel and said, "Syria condemns in the strongest terms the Israeli air strikes targeting the Abu Zuhur Air Base in Idlib; it considers these attacks as an unjust act of aggression, a clear violation of Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and a dangerous escalation that threatens security and stability in the region."

It was reported that the Israeli attacks, which have been continuing since December 8, 2024, when the Assad regime was overthrown, were carried out at a time when the Syrian state was acting moderately and working to reinforce stability and prevent tensions from escalating. It was noted that this situation once again reveals the Israeli occupation's attempts to undermine these efforts and drag the region into further tension and instability.

The statement said, "Syria holds the Israeli occupation responsible for this escalation and calls on the international community and the United Nations Security Council to openly condemn this attack and take a clear stance against Israel's repeated violations of Syria's sovereignty. Syria confirms that it will continue to defend its rights and national interests through legitimate means guaranteed within the framework of international law and international norms."

While no one claimed responsibility for the attack, some local sources stated that the attack may have been carried out by Israel. This was the first attack on Abu Zuhur Airport since the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad's government in December 2024.
