Extensive Rust on US Aircraft Carrier Lincoln Reached Thailand

The ship, which was withdrawn from duty in the Middle East and arrived in Thailand, attracted attention with the intense rust on its hull. Former U.S. Navy captain Carl Schuster noted that corrosion at the waterline is not unusual on ships that have been at sea continuously for more than 60 days. Stating that the hulls of ships moving in salty waters and especially in wavy seas are more corroded, Schuster warned that rust could weaken the steel structure if neglected. According to Schuster, it may take approximately 30 days of maintenance work to completely remove rust. However, only high-priority work will be carried out during Lincoln's approximately 7-day visit to Thailand's Laem Chabang Port. The aircraft carrier, which is approximately 335 meters long, was also on the agenda with supply problems and morale problems during its long mission, and it was reported that at least one crew member fell into the sea. It is reported that US President Donald Trump intervened in the rust problem on navy ships last year. John Phelan, the secretary general of the navy at the time, said that Trump called him in the middle of the night and complained about the rust.
