3.9 magnitude earthquake in Linguaglossa: damage to a road and evacuations

The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology announces that an earthquake of magnitude 3.9 was recorded in Linguaglossa, a municipality in Etna. The epicenter is located 7 km from the town centre. The earthquake was distinctly felt by the population. There was damage to a road, but no injuries. The earthquake caused a fracture along the road between the Brunek refuge and the Children's Home which were evacuated as a precaution.

"A 3.9 magnitude earthquake in Linguaglossa caused the opening of the Pernicana fault linked to volcanic activity. The road to Piano Provenzana, Ragabo area, Clan dei Ragazzi was 'fractured'. The restaurants in the area were evacuated as a precaution. There is no news of any other damage. Investigations are underway, on the spot, Civil Protection, Forestry, Municipality and Province", announced the head of the Sicilian Civil Protection, Salvo Kitchen.
