Earthquake in Colombia: the toll rises to 294 dead and 320 missing

The death toll from the earthquake that hit Colombia has risen to 294 deaths according to the latest official report from the Civil Protection (UNGRD). The number of missing people also increased further to 320, while the number of injured people was 3,935 with 353 people rescued.

Civil protection speaks of 54,008 families affected by the earthquake for a total of 115,461 people in 448 municipalities of 15 of the 32 departments of the country. The census of destroyed homes went from 12,504 to 14,493, while another 81,506 were damaged and 66 buildings collapsed, and in terms of public infrastructure there is talk of damage to 241 health centers, 2,612 school centers and 3,621 community centers, as well as 298 roads, 59 aqueducts, 44 vehicle bridges, five pedestrian bridges and five airports.

The latest bulletin also reports the rescue of 188 animals by rescuers.
