Tokat Governor Abdullah Köklü announced that approximately 5 thousand applications were made to health institutions with complaints of nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain and diarrhea, and 40 of approximately 70 patients receiving inpatient treatment were discharged. Köklü stated that the life-threatening situation of approximately 30 patients undergoing treatment is not present.

Governor Abdullah Köklü, who visited some patients receiving inpatient treatment in Tokat following the health complaints seen since Friday, made statements regarding the applications and the measures taken. Köklü said, "Today, we visited some of our patients who were receiving inpatient treatment in our hospital. We have had around 5 thousand applications so far. Of these 5 thousand applications, around 70 patients have received inpatient treatment. We have discharged 40 of them. Therefore, we now have around 30 patients. Of course, not all of these 30 patients are here. All patients, including those in our university hospital and private hospitals, are not in a life-threatening situation. We hope to get over it with fluid support."

Reminding that the water samples taken to determine the cause of the complaints were sent to Ankara, Köklü stated that the analysis results are expected to be received late on Tuesday or on Wednesday. Stating that they worked in coordination with the municipality and all water tanks were examined in detail over the weekend, Köklü said:

"We do not know right now whether it is water-borne. It would not be a correct statement to say that it is water-borne. I think we will reach a healthier result when the analysis result of the General Directorate of Public Health of the Ministry of Health reaches our city."

Emphasizing the need to be cautious until the results are obtained, Köklü asked citizens to pay attention to hygiene rules in the consumption of water and food.

Speaking about suspending education for one day in Tokat city centre, Köklü said that the decision was taken in order to carry out detailed cleaning and hygiene work in schools. Stating that there is no problem in the districts, Köklü announced that education in the schools in the city center will continue on Tuesday, October 13.

Ticks taken from migratory birds were examined in a scientific study

The study, carried out under the coordination of Koç University İş Bank Infectious Diseases Research Center, aims to monitor the movement of disease agents from ticks on migratory birds and use it as an early warning system. The project, which started in 2025, is subjected to morphological and molecular analysis of ticks collected from the Bird Banding Station in Avcılar, Istanbul. Researchers evaluate human, animal and environmental health together with the One Health approach, stating that species such as the Asian longhorn tick have settled in Türkiye and can carry different pathogens.
