Exhibition of Cai Luong artifacts at Tran Huu Trang Theater: more than 300 archival records published for the first time

Audiences visit the exhibition at Tran Huu Trang Theater (HCMC), within the framework of a series of events honoring Cai Luong art, organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Propaganda Department in coordination with TFS Film Studio and the theater.

The artifacts owned by collector Huynh Minh Hiep (54 years old) were announced for the first time. More than 300 handwritten opera scripts, tapes, advertising flyers, and stage productions have been preserved by him for more than 30 years. Among them, the oldest memorabilia is a vinyl record of Kim Van Kieu's opera, a work performed at the opening ceremony of Mr. Nam Tu's theater in My Tho, on March 15, 1918.

Two panels with images of artists Cong Tai and To Loan were used on the founding day of Tran Huu Trang Cai Luong Theater in 1976. The predecessor of this place was Hung Dao Theater, once known as the "theater cathedral" of Saigon.

Portrait of artist Tam Van in the script of the ancient opera Truong, printed in 1947. Publications are often given to the audience before entering the theater. Mr. Tam Van (1924 - 2009) was a vocational teacher for a series of golden generation cai luong artists such as Thanh Nga, Bach Tuyet, Thanh Tu, Mong Tuyen, Bao Quoc.

Posters advertising popular theater troupes in the 1960s, including the troupe of artist Ut Bach Lan - Thanh Duoc, with famous plays such as Do Long Dao, Vo Dong So - Bach Thu Ha.

Famous Vong Co and Bolero music records of the 1950s and 1960s are carefully preserved. Mr. Huynh Minh Hiep said his great-grandfather was governor of Bac Lieu - a major official during the French colonial period. Every time he returns to his hometown, he often re-compiles the collections in the warehouse, discovering more unknown artifacts.
