Trump Announces First-Ever Republican Midterm Convention in Dallas

Republicans will hold their first-ever midterm convention in Dallas, Texas, on September 9 and 10, US President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday, saying the unprecedented gathering would celebrate his administration's achievements and promote the Republican Party's "America First" agenda ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.

In a post on his social media platform, Trump described the event as a historic first for the Republican Party and said it would bring together party supporters, business leaders, innovators, manufacturers, first responders and entertainers for what he called "a RALLY like none other."

"BIG NEWS! For the first time ever, the Republican Party will hold a MIDTERM CONVENTION. It will be in Dallas, Texas. It has never been done before, and will be a truly Historic Event," Trump wrote, adding that Dallas was "One of my favorite places in the World."

According to Trump, the convention will focus on what he called the "GREAT AMERICAN COMEBACK" and highlight policy initiatives that he credited with transforming the country under his "America First" agenda. He listed achievements including "NO TAX ON TIPS, NO TAX ON OVERTIME, NO TAX ON SOCIAL SECURITY, STRONGER BORDERS, SAFEST EVER COMMUNITIES, LOWER COSTS AND REAL AFFORDABILITY, MORE JOBS, AMERICAN ENERGY DOMINANCE, AND SO MUCH MORE!"

Trump also pointed to economic and foreign policy developments, claiming, "Oil Prices are dropping sharply, even as we Denuclearize Iran. We are delivering on the promises that politicians talked about for decades, but never got done."

The US president said the convention would feature "hardworking Americans, our Great Innovators, Entrepreneurs, Manufacturers, First Responders, and Job Creators" whom he credited with driving what he described as the nation's "Golden Age." He added that the gathering would also include entertainment, saying, "We will also have lots of Great Entertainment. It will be a RALLY like none other!"

Framing the event within the wider national celebrations planned for the United States' 250th anniversary, Trump said, "America's 250th Birthday is approaching, and together, we are building the foundation for the NEXT 250 YEARS of American Greatness. Dallas will take center stage on September 9th and 10th as we celebrate our Nation, our achievements, and our bright future. THE GOLDEN AGE OF AMERICA HAS ONLY JUST BEGUN!"

The Republican Party has traditionally held national conventions only during presidential election years to formally nominate its White House candidate. Trump's announcement marks a departure from that practice, with the party set to stage its first-ever midterm convention ahead of the 2026 US midterm elections. The two-day event, scheduled for September 9 and 10 in Dallas, Texas, is expected to serve as a platform for Republicans to promote the party's agenda and rally supporters before the nationwide vote. The 2026 midterms will determine control of all 435 seats in the House of Representatives, around one-third of the Senate, as well as several gubernatorial and state-level offices. Dallas, in one of the Republican Party's strongest electoral strongholds, has long been a key centre for Republican fundraising, organising and political events, making it a strategically significant venue for the unprecedented gathering.
