Trump commemorates 9/11 by defending war against Iran

The president of the United States, Donald Trump, took advantage this Friday of the commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the attacks of September 11, 2001 to defend the war started by his Administration against Iran and promise that the Islamic Republic will never obtain a nuclear weapon.

"We salute the members of the Armed Forces who are working right now to ensure that the world's leading sponsor of terrorism, the Islamic Republic of Iran, never, ever has a nuclear weapon," the president said during the ceremony held at the Pentagon.

Trump, born in New York, chose to participate in the tribute at the headquarters of the Department of Defense, instead of doing so at Ground Zero in Manhattan, where the vice president, JD Vance, was present; all the country's living former presidents; and the city's mayor, Zohran Mamdani.

During his speech, the Republican leader maintained that the United States cannot forget "that moment of immense and horrible evil" that occurred 25 years ago, but he also highlighted the country's response to that "perversity."

"Today we renew the sacred oath we took a quarter of a century ago. We will never, ever forget. That is why we fight today. We have no other option. The only option is victory. We fight hard. We fight to win," he declared.

The Al Qaeda attacks against the Twin Towers in New York and the Pentagon in Washington left nearly 3,000 dead and triggered the so-called "war on terrorism", as well as the US invasion of Afghanistan.

The United States has been in a war against Iran for more than six months, which has not achieved its declared objective of overthrowing the ayatollah regime and which could take its toll on the Republicans in the November legislative elections, due to the increase in the price of gasoline derived from the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

During his speech at the Pentagon, Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, also defended the war against Iran by ensuring that the economic pressure on the Persian country "increases every day" and that the United States maintains "control" of the strait.
