US President Donald Trump said on Saturday that he had offered Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) boss Dana White the position of White House press secretary.

"I am pleased to announce that the Great Dana White, a violent Fighter and Warrior, has been offered the job of Press Secretary of the United States," Trump wrote in a post on his Truth Social account, adding that White would be a press secretary "like none other."

"Dana, please take the job!" Trump said.

Speaking to reporters in London on Saturday evening, White did not go into detail but said he was flying to Washington "right now" and that he would meet with Trump on Monday.

"I'm sure we'll have more to talk about after that," he continued, noting that he already had "a lot of jobs."

White had earlier shared an image on his Instagram story showing him standing behind a White House press conference lectern with a caption reading: "On to the next chapter."

Trump and White have forged a close relationship over the years, with Trump a regular attendee at UFC events and White having spoken at a number of the president's rallies, including at an inauguration eve event in January 2025.

The search for a new press secretary comes after Katie Zacharia quit after less than five days in the job following an awkward first press briefing.

Her predecessor, Karoline Leavitt, a favourite of the president, had announced in August that she was stepping down to focus on her family.

Trump has called Leavitt one of his "most trusted aides" and said she would continue to serve as an outside advisor.

"Karoline has been one of the best White House Press Secretaries in the History of the Office," Trump said in a social media post at the time.

European capitals are skeptical of a Trump administration proposal for a new European-wide security arrangement with Russia, fearing it risks sidelining Europe and emboldening Vladimir Putin. EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said Ukraine must be integrated into existing NATO and EU security architecture and that Putin does not have a veto over European security. POLITICO spoke to 12 anonymous NATO diplomats, EU envoys, and European officials who said allies were not briefed in advance. U.S.-brokered working-level talks with Ukraine and Russia are scheduled for Nov. 10-11 in Abu Dhabi.

Wave of bomb threats target Irish media outlets and more European flights

Ireland attributes a spike in hybrid threats targeting media outlets, airlines including Ryanair and Aer Lingus, and supermarket refrigeration systems across Europe to its hosting of the EU presidency and upcoming EPC summit. Bomb threats hit at least 18 European flights Friday, with fighter jets scrambled in Hungary and threats reported in France, Bulgaria, Spain, and Prague. An Irish official declined to name Russia but noted EU partners have previously linked similar hybrid attacks to it.
