Trump made Russian fuel a lifesaver

After his phone call with Putin, Trump announced that Russia will supply millions of tons of diesel fuel to the US and global markets.

Announcing on his Truth Social account that "the meeting was very productive", Trump announced that an agreement was reached for Russia to immediately supply over 300 thousand tons of diesel fuel to the US and global markets, and that 500 thousand tons of diesel fuel would be supplied in November and 1 million more tons of diesel fuel would be supplied immediately thereafter.

Stating that Russia will ship 3 million more tons of diesel fuel in a short time, depending on the condition of its diesel fuel refineries, Trump emphasized that lower prices are a priority, especially for American farmers and transporters.

Ukrainian leader Zelenski also announced on his X account that he condemned the agreement. Stating that the development will only prolong the war, Zelenski said, "The gifts given to Putin will not bring peace."

Fuel prices have put pressure on Trump as the US midterm elections are approaching on November 3. The Washington administration, which is going through a period in which the Iran war also increased costs, is trying to reduce prices before the election.

As a matter of fact, the US Treasury Department temporarily lifted the sanctions imposed on Russian diesel fuel until April 2027.
