Tuğberk İmamoğlu ship was found at a depth of 720 meters, search and rescue efforts continue

Relevant institutions, especially the Naval Forces, Coast Guard, Coastal Police, AFAD and Red Crescent, participate in the search and rescue efforts for the victims, which were initiated due to the collision of the ships named "MT Alsu" and "Tuğberk İmamoğlu" in the Marmara Sea on September 2 and the sinking of the ship named "Tuğberk İmamoğlu" with a crew of 10 people.

As part of the work, the AA team viewed the activities carried out on the 68-meter-long and 14-meter-wide TCG Akın rescue and backup ship belonging to the Naval Forces Command.

The teams on the ship continue their search and rescue efforts on a 24/7 basis.

The work is carried out with the ROV, an unmanned underwater vehicle launched from TCG Akın and remotely controlled from the surface via cable.

In addition, lookouts on TCG Akın carry out uninterrupted surveillance on the sea surface.

Helicopters and UAVs also support the search and rescue efforts carried out by TCG Akın.

Northern Sea Area Commander Vice Admiral Ramazan Özoğul, in his statement to the AA correspondent, said that after the accident that occurred on September 2, 3 floating elements, a maritime patrol plane, a UAV and a helicopter were dispatched to the region with the directives of the Commander of the Naval Forces, Admiral Ercüment Tatlıoğlu, and provided support for search and rescue activities.

Stating that search and rescue activities have been continuing uninterrupted for about 4 days, Özoğul said, "With TCG Akın, which was built with the national and local resources we are currently using, the location of the Tuğberk İmamoğlu ship was determined at noon yesterday and was subsequently identified with our ROV device capable of diving up to 1000 meters. At a depth of approximately 720 meters, 50 meters from the starboard side of our ship, the name 'Tuğberk İmamoğlu' is clearly on the seabed." It was imaged with the ROV device to be read as " he said.

Lieutenant Colonel Fuat Uyanık, commander of the TCG Akın rescue and backup ship, noted that TCG Akın is a rescue ship built in Tuzla in 2017 with local and national resources.

Emphasizing that the ship has side-scan sonar, multi-beam sounding sonar, remote-controlled underwater robot and ROV that will perform search and rescue activities up to a depth of 1000 meters, Uyanık said, "After the accident of the Tuğberk İmamoğlu ship, we arrived in the region in accordance with the order given by our Naval Forces. On September 4, at around 14.00, we went to the region with our ROV device at a depth of 720 meters. "We captured the name of the ship and determined its real location under water." he said.
