Tenda Tunnel: summer openings expanded upon request from Piedmont and Liguria

The Intergovernmental Commission for the Southern Alps, which met today to define the operating calendar of the new Tenda Tunnel in the coming months, has accepted the request made by the Piedmont Region and the Liguria Region, supported by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, to guarantee wider openings during the period of greatest tourist influx. This was reported in a note by the Piedmont Region.

"The agreement reached - we read - will in fact allow a significant expansion of the summer opening hours, responding to the needs expressed by the territories, economic operators and the tourism sector".

"From the beginning we have supported with conviction, together with the Liguria Region and in full agreement with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, the need to expand openings as much as possible during the summer - declare the president of the Piedmont Region Alberto Cirio and the regional councilor for Transport and infrastructure, Marco Gabusi -.

It was a request that came forcefully from the territories, from businesses, from tourist operators and from the many citizens who use this strategic connection on a daily basis.

The outcome of today's meeting therefore represents an important result, the result of shared work and constant comparison between all the institutions involved".

The certainty of financing by both countries and the approval of the project - says the Piedmont Region - today represent the crucial elements for starting with the second barrel. In this context, the Region has once again delivered to the CIG the study commissioned from the Polytechnic of Turin, which verified the technical feasibility, in complete safety, of allowing two-way circulation in the new tunnel in construction mode during the works.
