An 18-year-old girl was transported by air ambulance in serious condition to the Brotzu hospital in Cagliari after being hit by a migrant boat in the waters of Tuerredda, on the south-western coast of Sardinia. The young woman, a tourist, was in the water with a SUP in front of the beach when she was hit by the boat, which had 14 people from North Africa on board.

The rescue

After the impact the girl would have suffered several fractures and would have been at risk of drowning. A lifeguard reached her in the water and brought her back to shore. The Areus helicopter then landed on the beach, transferring the tourist to the hospital in the Sardinian capital.

The stranded migrants

The occupants of the small boat were intercepted shortly afterwards by the police. A squad car from the Carbonia police station also intervened on site.
