Alpay, the legendary name of Turkish pop music, passed away.

Alpay Nazikioğlu, one of the important representatives of Turkish pop music, singer and composer, passed away at the age of 91.

Journalist Nasuh Bektaş announced the artist's death with a post on his X account. Bektaş included the following statement in his post: "Alpay, one of the important names of the music world, passed away. I offer my condolences to his fans."

No information has yet been shared regarding the cause of death and funeral of the 91-year-old artist.

WHO IS ALPAY NAZİKİOĞLU?

Alpay Nazikioğlu, who was born in Ankara on July 17, 1935, was among the leading names of Turkish pop music. Alpay, who studied at Ankara University Faculty of Law, worked in pop, romantic folk and rock genres in his music career, which started in the 1960s. The artist, who released his first 45 record in 1964, reached a wide audience with his original interpretations as well as his Turkish adaptations of foreign songs.

Alpay became known especially for his works such as "Come in September", "Factory Girl", "Black Train" and "I Waited Again". The musician, who has released many albums throughout his long artistic life, also interpreted some of Attilâ İlhan's poems. The artist, who has witnessed different periods of Turkish pop music, stated in the interviews he gave in 2024 that he wanted to organize a jubilee concert by evaluating his music career.
