Decrease in building permits, increase in completed buildings in Türkiye

A decrease was recorded in new building permits in Türkiye in the April-June period. According to Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) data, the number of buildings for which construction permits were issued in the second quarter decreased by 2 percent compared to the same period last year, while the number of flats decreased by 9.5 percent and total surface area decreased by 7.4 percent.

LICENSE FOR NEW RESIDENCES HAS BEEN REJECTED

Of the total surface area for which building permits were issued in the second quarter of the year, 78.2 percent were given by municipalities and 21.8 percent by other authorized administrations.

According to the purpose of use of licensed buildings, the largest share of surface area was residential buildings with two or more flats, with 37.6 million square meters. The share of these buildings in the total area was calculated as 71.1 percent. Industrial buildings and warehouses ranked second with 4.5 million square meters.

INCREASE IN COMPLETED BUILDINGS

The number of buildings issued with occupancy permits increased by 13.7 percent in the second quarter compared to the same period last year. In the same period, the number of apartments issued with building permits increased by 10.7 percent, and the total surface area increased by 5.8 percent.

Of the total surface area that received building occupancy permits, 79.4 percent were given by municipalities and 20.6 percent by other authorized administrations.

During this period, the highest surface area share of buildings for which occupancy permits were issued belonged to residential buildings with two or more flats. While the surface area of ​​these buildings reached 19.4 million square meters, their share in the total was 67.9 percent. Industrial buildings and warehouses ranked second with 3.6 million square meters.

THE DECLINE IS MORE PROSPECTIVE DUE TO THE CALENDAR EFFECT

According to data adjusted for calendar effects, the number of buildings with building permits decreased by 5.1 percent, the number of flats decreased by 11.4 percent and the surface area decreased by 9.4 percent in the second quarter compared to the same period last year.

In the series adjusted for seasonal and calendar effects, the number of buildings with building permits increased by 0.3 percent, while the number of flats decreased by 4.9 percent and surface area decreased by 2.1 percent.

In the same period, there was also an increase in the number of buildings issued with occupancy permits. In the series adjusted for calendar effects, the number of buildings increased by 11.8 percent, the number of apartments increased by 8.2 percent and the surface area increased by 4.4 percent. In the series adjusted for seasonal and calendar effects, the number of buildings increased by 5.4 percent, the number of apartments increased by 4.8 percent and the surface area increased by 2.8 percent.
