SPFL interim agreement: Celtic and Rangers without support from away fans for upcoming matches

The provisional agreement follows an independent review of the events surrounding the Scottish Cup quarter-final between the teams at Ibrox Stadium (Rangers' ground) on March 8, and subsequent discussions involving the SPFL, both clubs and Police Scotland.

Riots at the Glasgow derby

The derby match was disrupted by fans of both teams storming the pitch and rioting after Celtic won on penalties following a goalless draw. Among others, things were thrown flares, there were fights.

Police and stewards had to establish a cordon to prevent escalation and restore order. The players hurriedly left the field.

Friday's decision means that Celtic and Rangers cannot count on the support of their fans from the visiting sectors in Scottish Premier League matches and in the Scottish League Cup match at Ibrox Stadium on September 13. It will be similar if the eternal rivals meet in the Scottish Cup.

The Scottish Professional Football League emphasizes that safety and security remain a priority. At the same time, they suggest that arrangements may be revised if circumstances change significantly during the season.
