Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu evaluated the Turkish Electronic Communications Sector 2026 Second Quarter Market Data Report prepared by the Information Technologies and Communication Authority (BTK).
55.6 BILLION LIRA INVESTMENT FROM THE ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATION INDUSTRY
Stating that the number of operators operating in the electronic communications sector reached 418 at the end of the second quarter of 2026, Minister Uraloğlu stated that the number of authorizations given to these operators was 766.
Uraloğlu said, "In the second quarter of 2026, investments in the electronic communications sector increased by 86.9 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 55.6 billion lira."
THE NUMBER OF MOBILE SUBSCRIBERS REACHED 102.2 MILLION
Evaluating mobile communication data, Minister Uraloğlu stated that the total number of mobile subscribers, including machine-to-machine communication (M2M) subscribers, increased by 6 percent compared to the same period last year, and said, "Our total number of mobile subscribers, which was 96.5 million in the second quarter of 2025, reached 102.2 million in the same period of 2026." he said.
Uraloğlu stated that the real number of mobile users, excluding M2M subscribers, in the second quarter of 2026 was approximately 87 million and that the mobile penetration rate was 101 percent. He noted that when M2M subscribers and the 0-9 age population are excluded, the mobile penetration rate is 115.9 percent.
NUMBER OF M2M SUBSCRIBERS INCREASED BY 36.4 PERCENT
Drawing attention to the increase in M2M subscriptions, Uraloğlu said, "Our number of M2M subscribers reached 15.2 million, an increase of 36.4 percent from 11.2 million in the same period last year." He made a statement.
Türkiye RANKS FIRST IN EUROPE IN MOBILE CALLING TIME
Providing information about the average monthly usage time in mobile communications, Minister Uraloğlu said, "With an average monthly mobile usage time of 468 minutes in the second quarter of 2026, Turkey ranked first among the European countries that could be examined, as in the previous period." he said.
Minister Uraloğlu stated that in the second quarter of 2026, total mobile voice traffic was 77.4 billion minutes and fixed voice traffic was 1.3 billion minutes.
THE NUMBER OF MOBILE NUMBERS PORTED REACHED APPROXIMATELY 214.1 MILLION
Evaluating the data on mobile number portability, Uraloğlu stated that approximately 2.8 million mobile number porting transactions were carried out in the second quarter of 2026. Uraloğlu said, “As of June 30, 2026, the total number of mobile numbers ported reached approximately 214.1 million.” he said.
THE NUMBER OF BROADBAND INTERNET SUBSCRIBERS EXCEEDED 100.8 MILLION
Stating that the increase in the number of internet subscribers continues, Minister Uraloğlu said, "The number of our broadband internet subscribers, which was approximately 6 million in 2008, reached 100 million 846 thousand 626 as of the second quarter of 2026. 21.2 million of our broadband internet subscribers, which increased by 3.6 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, were fixed and 79.7 million were mobile broadband subscribers." he said.
THE NUMBER OF FIBER INTERNET SUBSCRIBERS REACHED 10.7 MILLION
Evaluating broadband subscriptions according to the technologies used, Uraloğlu said, "In the second quarter of 2026, our fiber internet subscriber number increased by 22 percent compared to the same period last year, reaching 10.7 million." He made a statement.
Uraloğlu stated that the number of fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) subscribers increased by 26.4 percent compared to the same period last year, and said, "The number of fiber-to-the-home subscribers reached 9.6 million from 7.6 million." he said.
Minister Uraloğlu also noted that in the second quarter of 2026, the number of xDSL subscribers is approximately 8 million and the number of cable internet subscribers is approximately 1.5 million.
FIBER INFRASTRUCTURE LENGTH REACHED 720 THOUSAND KILOMETERS
Emphasizing that the fiber infrastructure continues to expand, Uraloğlu said, “Our fiber length, which was 637 thousand kilometers in the same period last year, reached 720 thousand kilometers with an increase of 13 percent in the second quarter of 2026.” he said.
NUMBER OF 5G REAL USERS EXCEEDED 44.2 MILLION
Minister Uraloğlu stated that the real number of 5G users in the second quarter of 2026 was 44 million 268 thousand 946. Uraloğlu reported that the number of 5G compatible devices reached 29 million 777 thousand 164 in the second quarter.
BROADBAND INTERNET DATA TRAFFIC INCREASED BY 16.5 PERCENT
Stating that the increase in internet usage is also reflected in data traffic, Minister Uraloğlu said, "The total broadband internet data traffic, which was 22 million 507 thousand 754 TByte in the second quarter of 2025, increased by 16.5 percent to 26 million 217 thousand 290 TByte in the second quarter of 2026." he said.
-39.9 Percent Increase in Mobile Internet Traffic
Evaluating the fixed and mobile distribution of data traffic, Uraloğlu said, "While our fixed broadband internet data traffic increased by 11.4 percent, reaching 20.6 million TBytes, our mobile broadband internet data traffic increased by 39.9 percent, reaching approximately 5.6 million TBytes." he said.
NUMBER OF FIXED PHONE SUBSCRIBERS 8.1 MILLION
Sharing data on fixed phone services, Uraloğlu reported that as of the end of the second quarter of 2026, the number of fixed phone subscribers is 8.13 million and the fixed phone penetration rate is approximately 9.4 percent.
Uraloğlu also stated that the country from which the most traffic is sent from the fixed network is England, and the country from which the most traffic is received is TRNC.
