Controversial event for dark-skinned people in Berlin's Volksbühne canceled

The controversial event by the Berliner Volksbühne at Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz and the Each One Teach One (EOTO) association exclusively for dark-skinned people has been canceled. A statement from the association says: "Due to the nationwide and mostly very polemical reporting, a climate has now arisen in which we can no longer trust that it will be a positive experience for the young people and that the physical and psychological safety of the children and young people can be guaranteed tomorrow, Friday, in the Volksbad in the Volksbühne." Due to the "exposed location" of the swimming pool, it is to be feared that "safe arrival and departure cannot be guaranteed and that discriminatory and defamatory statements may be made towards individuals.

There has been a temporary swimming pool in front of the Volksbühne on Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz in Berlin since August 7th. The "Volksbad" was announced as "open to everyone who longs to cool down in the hotter Berlin summer, wants to improve their freestyle technique or wants to get together with the neighborhood and do nothing." Anyone can come, “free of charge and without requiring identification.” That's what it says on the theater's website.
